The
Rathfriland Motor Club have run a clubman rally event since 2000 in Kilbroney
Park. This proved to be a very successful event for both 2 and 4 wheel
drive cars. Previous event winners have been:
2000 - Maurice Moffett
2001 - Trevor Lancashire
2002 - Terence Taggart
2003 - Gary White
2004 - Gary White
2005 - Dominic Carson
Up until 2005 the event had been 100% tarmac surface but the 2005 event
broke the mould and shared both a tarmac stage and a gravel stage. The
club realised that they had a wealth of gravel stages at their disposal
and had always wanted to be a round of the Northern Ireland Rally Championship,
so they planned to run an all gravel rally worthy of the NIRC in 2006.
They officially applied to the ANICC Stage Rallies committee to be evaluated
for inclusion into the National B Championship and the response from that
committee was that if they could run the rally in 2005 they could be evaluated
for possible inclusion into the 2006 Northern Ireland Rally Championship.
This meant cutting 11 months off the preparation time and since this would
be added to the 2005 calendar so late in the year the event would not
be published in the usual calendars or ANICC yearbook.
So if you fancy a change from the usual rallies year in and year out,
no matter where you are from, if you want to taste some of the new stages
to hit the Northern Ireland Rally Championship next year:-
go to the competitors page and download a set of supplementary regulations
and an entry form - and get your entry in before the deadline!
